Sustainability Strategy Presentations
Business Sustainability Strategy in the classroom ︎
Strategy always has a spice of creativity especially when it comes to how to save our planet
︎My role was similar to a creative strategist throughout this class project. Other team members were Rachel Harmon, John Loftus, and Jeffrey Lowe.
Via multimedia team presentations, synthesize knowledge of strategy and climate science to develop recommendations for climate change prevention and resiliency at a firm of choice in a semester-long research project.
Objective:
Via multimedia team presentations, synthesize knowledge of strategy and climate science to develop recommendations for climate change prevention and resiliency at a firm of choice in a semester-long research project.
Digital/Multimedia Expressions:
Digital Storytelling
︎
Task: Create a 3-6 minute digital story that associates a personal viewpoint/experience or business interface with environmental “commons”, setting the agenda for why sustainability matters for Starbucks.
Results:
The point of view of the video was students who frequently visit Starbucks to start their day of classes. The focus was on the single-use cups polluting the planet utilized to make their favorite drinks. “Is your Starbucks experience really a premium experience if it's at the cost of our planet?” was our big dramatic question. I edited/created the video using Adobe Premiere and the direction of the storyboard and script I helped organize.
Environmental Product Differentiation Infographic
︎
Task: Using Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or any design program desired, work with your team to create an infographic that covers an environmental product differentiation strategy for Starbucks.
Results:
My team utilized Canva to construct our infographic. After developing the base, I added the text through Adobe Illustrator to achieve a font closer aligned to Startbucks’ branding. It was rewarding to take charge of the infographic’s visual appeal.

Build a Better Powerpoint Presentation
︎
Task:
>Create a presentation about the carbon market and Starbucks.
>Calculate how a price on carbon in an existing carbon market would affect them.
>Propose an internal carbon pricing approach and specific price to facilitate emissions reductions at Starbucks.
Results:
The challenge was to incorporate design elements into the presentation. I strategized the direction of the creativity our presentation showcased.

Final Presentation
︎
Task: Provide environmentally sustainable strategy recommendations for Starbucks’ sustainability director.
Results:
We wrote a 3,800-word critical analysis memo to the Director of Sustainability of Starbucks to support this presentation. It included our detailed recommendations along with justification, analysis of outcomes, steps for implementation, and rationale of steps. My part focused on the recommendation for Starbucks to participate in more public government action against climate change.

Outcome:
Finished all deliverables equipped with skills to analyze the complex interactions between resource availability and business dynamics, including regulations, customer preferences, and changing industry pressures. I understand how to engage these issues with stakeholders, investors, regulators, non-governmental organizations, customers, and suppliers.
